Austin's birhday

So, let's start with the cake. Austin LOVES basketball, so I thought I'd be a really great mom and make him a basketball cake, this silly thing took HOURS. I decided to make a banana cake from scratch, sounds simple enough, right? You pour the batter into two halves of the sphere and then bake...only one of the halves ended up with half burned onto my element in my oven, filling the apartment with smoke and the smell of burned cake. then, I thought, well, maybe we can still use it, it will just be smaller than I thought, then that same half fell in. So, being like my mother and not willing to give up on all my hard work, I still tried to slavage it, I started to frost and put eh halves together and it sank. I had one good half, one useless half. I started over, somewhat with just a regular cake mix and we ended up with a squatty half banana, half chocolate basketball cake, and one tired mama who worked on the cake and cleaning the house from 2 pm until 11 pm and babysat 3 kids (with my niece's help).

The house looked great, the cake was decent and the the birthday boy was happy. I made sure everything was spotless because although I love my parents very much, I am very scrutinized on my housekeeping skills and feel very self-conscious when they come over, since they are looking for things to do instead of relaxing. So...thinking I'd be safe this time, they were set loose. My dad quickly found our broken disposal in the kitchen sink and took it upon himself to fix it. 2 hours later, we finally had power back on and were able to have the cake. It was a little annoying, but I'm so grateful to have a working disposal, thanks dad!

Austin loved the cake and the attention, not the birthday hat so much, definately the presents, though. He got lots of new balls, toys, new clothes and...the four wheeler. this was a Christmas present that he wasn't interested in opening, so voila...birthday hit!! He loves to ride this thing around.

My point, moms put way too much work into things, and then aren't always able to enjoy the actual event, next time we'll simplify. :)

It is addicting and time consuming. I have to pace myself and only allow a certain amount of computer time.
